October just flew by and now it is time to turn our attention to winter holidays and traditions.  We will be holding our first indoor market of the season on Saturday from 9-noon at the Ely Public Library.  The library is also holding an open house to celebrate ten years at their current Dows St. location from 10-2.  I hope you get a chance to stop by and say hello!

Nov. 3 Ely Winter Market/Ely survey

Hello Ely Farmers Market fans,

 

We had a cold finish to the outdoor market, so we are prepared to move inside for the winter market.  Meet us at the Ely Public Library from 9-noon on Saturday, Nov. 3rd for whatever is left of summer produce, lots of baked goods and handmade crafts.

Tues 10/2 Ely Farmers Market

Today is the last Tuesday market of the year and I think this week's weather will make a strong case for heading indoors next month.

 

We will be out at the Ely Community Center from 4-6:30 tonight. 

 

Saturday is the much awaited Ely Fall Fest.  There is a lot going on including a car show, kid activities, live music, a 5k race and lot more.  The complete schedule can be found here: http://www.elyiowa.com/ely_fall_fest.htm.  Make sure to thank all the volunteers who have put in so many hours to make it happen!

 

Farmers market vendors will be set up all day in our regular spot.  Craft vendors will be set up across the street at the Friends of the Library Craft Fair.  Make sure you stop by both to say hi to your favorite vendors.

We will be out there for Tuesday and Saturday markets through Oct 6, Fall Fest weekend.

Vendors planning on setting up market stands for Fall Fest (Oct. 6) need to let me know their plans as soon as possible. Sat 9/22 Ely Farmers Market

Quick reminder to stop by the Ely Farmers Market from 8-noon at the Ely Community Center on Saturday...I have seen the weather forecast and time may be running out on summer produce, so get it while you can.  I know there are new crops of lettuce and green beans as well as the usual tomatoes, peppers, squash, and baked goods.

 

We will be out there for Tuesday and Saturday markets through Oct 6, Fall Fest weekend.

Ely Farmers Market Tuesday 4-6:30 9/18/12

Hello farmers market friends,

 

The market will be held at the community center from 4-6:30 today. 

 

It feels like I left for vacation in the summer and came back to an Iowa fall.  I hope the weather holds out a bit longer so I can get a few more pounds of tomatoes from my garden.  Either way, we only have a few more summer market Tuesdays and Saturdays before our last one on October 6.  After that we will move back into the library for the winter months.

 

The winter market will be held at the Ely Public Library from 9-noon on the following Saturdays:

Jan. 5 and 19

8/21 Ely Farmers Market Reminder

Our Tuesday afternoon market will be happening from 4-6:30 at the Ely Community Center. Stop by for fresh produce, baked goods, honey and crafts.

 

Our 1st Annual Garden Tours and Tomato Tasting was a great success.  We had lots of fun, conversation, and good food.  We will plan on doing it again next year!

 

On Wednesday 8/22/12, the Ely Seed Lending Library will be hosting a presentation and discussion of simple seed saving techniques at 7:00 p.m at the Ely Public Library.  All are welcome to attend this free and informative event!  The Seed Library is hoping that lots of people are saving flower and veggie seeds from their yards and gardens to donate to the seed library!

 

Our 2012/13 winter market dates are set.  If you are interested in being a vendor, make your reservations since some dates tend to fill up, especially near the holidays.

Saturday 8/18 Ely Farmers Market Reminder

Hope to see you all at the Ely Farmers Market tomorrow morning (8/18) from 8-noon at the Ely Community Center!

The Ely Farmers Market will be set up at the community center on Saturday from 8-12.  The summer produce has been looking great, so be sure to stop by.

 

 

The 1st annual Ely Garden Tours and Tomato Tasting will be Aug. 18 at 2:00 starting from the library.  We are looking for a few more gardens to add to the tour, so email me or sign up at the library.  I expect that we will spend 10-15 minutes at each home garden, with the final stop at Ely's own community gardens at the new water tower site.  We will then end up at the library for some tomato tasting and a tour of the seed library. If you have homegrown tomatoes, bring a few for sampling!

Corn, tomatoes and more

Today's market fare includes corn, onions, cucumbers, potatoes, zucchini, tomatoes, jellies, flowers, coffee, dill,  lettuce, pie, radish, zucchini bread, beans,  fresh bread (cinnamin, French), cinnamin rolls, root beer float cookies, and handmade coasters.

There is corn down at the market but it was going fast!  Lots of fresh produce,breads, popcorn and more also.

7/7 Ely Farmers Market

We are back to our regular market schedule this week, so we will see you Saturday morning from 8-noon.  Our vendors will have a nice selection of baked goods, fresh summer produce and a few craft items. I heard there was a possibility for sweet corn.  If  I hear anything definite on this important matter, I will post it to the blog (http://elyfarmersmarket.blogspot.com/), our facebook group, and twitter. Don't let the heat keep you away: it only takes 9 steps from your parking spot to the vendors.  It is practically a drive thru :)

July 3 and July 4 Ely Farmers Market

We will have a vendor or two at the market today from 4-6:30.  Stop by to pick up some essentials: beans, crafts, bread, and possibly corn.

 

There will also at least one vendor setting up at the community center from 8-noon on July 4th with hair accessories.  We do have vendor space available for vendors wanting to sell their homemade  and homegrown goods.

 

There is a pancake breakfast put on by Ely Fire Department from 7-12:30 and the Ely 4th of July parade at 6:00 through town.

6/30 Ely Farmers Market 8-noon

Head out to the farmers market to grab the first of the summer produce: sweet corn, beans, kohlrabi and more.  Vendors will also have the usual baked goods, homemade breads, and crafts. 

 

 

Vendors will also be setting up at the Ely Community Center from 8-noon on the morning of Wednesday, July 4th, and a few vendors will also be at our regular Tuesday (4-6:30) market.

Don't forget to stop by the Ely Farmers Market on Saturday at the Ely Community Center to pick up your locally grown, baked and handcrafted goods.  We are hoping for a nice morning!  I think there is a big bike ride starting from Odie's tomorrow morning, so we are hoping for some extra visitors.

Community Garden Update

Community gardeners have been busy planting up at our new garden site after a somewhat bumpy, but experience earning beginning.

We are grateful to Russ Lehman, President of Sign Productions of Cedar Rapids for the loan of a large water tank that will be used for watering the gardens. Thanks to some hardworking individuals, the tank has been rinsed and should be filled and ready for use this afternoon, just in time for our super hot weekend.  We are grateful for all the help and support!
